And that’s your way in, you need to become a professional artist. The definition of a professional artist is someone who has experience, can show that experience in their book of photos and document it with a resume and a video. Build A Portfolio
You need a photographer, a stylist and a videographer. The easiest way to find them is through the local fashion and art schools. Offer to work with students and help them to build their portfolio. You can also put ads in free places such as Craig’s List. You can approach a hair salon and offer to work with a couple of their clients for free as long as you can take pictures. Don’t forget to offer them copies of the pictures. Hey it never hurts to ask your Mother or your friends if they know an aspiring photographer or videographer. And by the way you need the videographer to capture you doing the makeup and talking about what you’re doing. Eventually you will be submitting your reel.
Work With Everyone
You must get clients. Approach bridal shops, wedding photographers, local theater groups. Find bands that are starting out and offer to do make them up for their publicity stills. Call on modeling agencies, high school and college drama departments. Look everywhere for every one.
Your people
You must document your experience as much as possible. This means you want your team to be with you as much as possible. Don’t forget the narration, for the video, of why you are using the makeup in a particular way.
Portfolio
Finally you will have built a portfolio. It is known as your book. It will include 9 x 12 or 11 x 14 photos.
